London:

“Harry Potter” author JK Rowling revealed on Wednesday that she was the victim of domestic violence and sexual assault.

The famous British writer said in a blog post that she was leaking the information to put her controversial comments about transgender women into context.

“It’s not an easy piece to write,” said Rowling in a 3,695-word essay on gender identity and his own troubled past.

“I have been in the public eye for over twenty years and have never spoken publicly about being a victim of domestic violence and sexual assault,” wrote Rowling.

“It’s not because I’m ashamed that these things happen to me, but because they are traumatic to review and remember.”

Rowling caused a scandal by tweeting last weekend about “menstruating men.”

“I’m sure there was a word for these people. Someone is helping me. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”

The tweet forced “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe to apologize to trans women who may have been offended by Rowling’s remark.

“Transgender women are women,” wrote Radcliffe in an article for the Trevor project website.

The quarrel dates back to December comments in which Rowling expressed support for a woman who had lost her job over what her employer considered “transphobic” tweets.

Rowling said on Wednesday that “accusations and threats of trans activists have been boiling in my Twitter timeline” ever since.

“A lot of women are justifiably terrified of trans activists; I know this because many have come into contact with me to tell their stories,” she wrote.

Rowling ended her post by claiming that she was “a survivor (and certainly not a victim”).

“I did not write this essay in the hope that someone would provide me with a violin, not even a lowercase,” she said.

“I only mentioned my past because, like any other human being on this planet, I have a complex backdrop, which shapes my fears, interests and opinions.”

“Mentally sexless”

Rowling said she spent many years thinking about trans issues due to her own gender identity issues when she was young.

“When I read about gender identity theory, I remember how mentally sexless I felt in young people,” she wrote.

“Since I did not have the realistic possibility of becoming a man in the 80s, it was books and music that allowed me to overcome both my mental health problems and the examination and the sexualized judgment that put so many girls at war against their bodies in their adolescence. “

54-year-old woman said she spent a period of feeling “ambivalent about being female” before learning that “it’s okay to feel confused, dark, sexual and non-sexual , not sure what you are. “

She also argued that “the current explosion of trans activism” has resulted in too many people undergoing gender reassignment surgery without thinking enough about it.

“I want to be very clear here: I know that transition will be a solution for some gender dysphoric people, although I also know through extensive research that studies have consistently shown that between 60 and 90% of adolescents with dysphoria like their dysphoria, “she said.

“So I want trans women to be safe. At the same time, I don’t want to make … girls and women less safe.”

But she also defended her right to speak freely about a problem she said she had been with her throughout her life.

“As a very banned author, I am interested in freedom of expression and have defended it publicly, even with Donald Trump,” she wrote.

Rowling’s books have been banned in some parts of the world because of their association in some cultures with witchcraft and the occult.
