Bharatpur (Rajasthan):
Members of the Gurjar community continued their protest on the Bharatpur railway tracks on Thursday to request a reservation.
Large numbers of people stopped the railroad in Bharatpur, demanding a reservation for employment and education classifying them as a “backward class” (MBC) community.
Several trains were diverted due to the blockade of the railway tracks by the demonstrators.
The government of Rajasthan adopted on October 26, 2018 a bill increasing the quota of other backward classes (OBC) from 21% to 26%. In December 2018, the government of Rajasthan also approved a 1% reservation for Gurjars and four other backward castes (OBCs).
Gurjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla said on Wednesday that the administration should restart internet services as community members will not create any problems.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Bainsla said: “The administration should restart internet services, we will not create any problems. Respond to our requests and we will leave here.”
A representative of the government of Rajasthan had also met with community leaders who were protesting on the railroad tracks and assured that their demands would be passed on and that a permanent solution would be found for the same.
