New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that “dynastic corruption” is a major challenge for the country and lamented that it has become part of the political tradition in many states.
Speaking at a conference, he said the corruption that continues from generation to generation is making the country hollow like a termite.
“Today I will mention another big challenge that awaits you. This challenge has gradually developed over the past decades and has taken a formidable form in the country.
“This is the challenge of dynastic corruption (bhrashtachar ka vanshwaad), that is, corruption that continues from generation to generation,” Prime Minister Modi said.
He said that in recent decades it has been seen that when a generation involved in corruption escapes punishment, the next generation tends to be more brazen in committing such acts.
“He sees that when nothing has happened to the one who earns millions of rupees at home, his confidence is further strengthened,” Prime Minister Modi said in his speech in Hindi.
The prime minister said there was a need for systemic controls, effective audits, capacity building and anti-corruption training.
“The fight against corruption is not the work of a single agency but is a collective responsibility,” Prime Minister Modi said after opening the national conference on vigilance and the fight against corruption.
The three-day conference, which kicked off Tuesday via video conference, is hosted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
