Chandigarh:
The BJP-JJP government in Haryana plans to reserve 50% seats for women in panchayati raj institutions, Deputy Chief Minister of State Dushyant Chautala said on Tuesday.
He said a two-wheeled vehicle will also be given to women members, including sarpanches and plumes, who have done commendable work in the villages.
The government is preparing a list of 100 of these women who have done remarkable work in the villages and they will receive a “scooty” as part of a corporate social responsibility initiative with Honda, said Chautala in a communicated.
Regarding the question of reservations, the head of the JJP said that the deputies of the two parties had reflected on this question and that a final decision would be taken soon.
According to Haryana Panchayati Raj law, at least one third of the seats must be reserved for women.
Chautala, who is also minister of rural development and panchayats, said that empowering women means empowering society as a whole. It will certainly be a step in the right direction, he added.
The head of the JJP said that the state government had taken adequate measures to ensure the maximum participation of women in the society and institutions of panchayati raj.
