Google is adding functionality to its Maps service to alert users to COVID-19 travel restrictions to help them plan their trips better, Alphabet Inc. said on Monday
The update would allow users to check on a station’s overcrowding at any given time, or if buses on a certain route run on a limited schedule, Google said.
Transit alerts would be deployed in Argentina, France, India, the Netherlands, the United States and the United Kingdom, among other countries, the company said in a blog post.
The new features would also include details on COVID-19 checkpoints and restrictions on crossing national borders, starting with Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Over the past few months, the company has analyzed the location data of billions of Google user phones in 131 countries to examine locked mobility and help health officials assess whether people are social distancing and others. prescriptions issued to curb the virus.
