Kanpur:

More than three months after the ambush in Bikru village, in which eight policemen including an SP deputy were killed, Kanpur police invoked the gangster law against 30 of gangster aides Vikas Dubey arrested in the part of the case.

Kanpur’s Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Preetinder Singh said on Saturday that the gangster law had been slapped on the 30 defendants.

A separate FIR under the relevant sections of the Gangster Law has been filed against the imprisoned defendants, the DIG added.

The investigation was entrusted to the station agent (Billhaur) PN Bajpai, who was asked to properly investigate the case.

Earlier this month, a charge sheet in the Bikru ambush case was submitted to the relevant court.

Eight policemen, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Devendra Mishra, were ambushed in Bikru as they were on their way to arrest Dubey, a feared gangster, and fell under bullets fired from rooftops shortly after midnight on July 3.

Under the Gangster Act, a district magistrate can order the seizure of property, whether movable or immovable, if there is reason to believe that it was acquired by a gangster as that commission for an offense liable to be tried under the law, said the DIG.
