Bengaluru:
Finally, there is good news for thousands of depositors caught in the Rs 4000 crore IMA Ponzi scam. As of November 25, they have a month to claim the money they have. lost to the I Monetary Advisory (IMA) group, authorities said.
“We invite claims from IMA applicants. Claims can be submitted within one month of November 25. Any claims received after December 24 will not be acceptable. Claims can be submitted online, or people can submit their requests to Bangalore One or Karnataka One Help Centers, ”said Harsh Gupta, special officer and competent authority in the case of the IMA.
Special Officer Gupta expects a large number of requests to reach the authority between November 25 and December 24.
“We are expecting around 75,000 to 1 lakh of claims. Our audit shows that Rs2,900 crore is the principal amount outstanding. And if we submit the returns that depositors have already obtained, around Rs 1,400 crore is the probable amount of the claim, “he told me.
The Ponzi scheme linked to the IMA group, headquartered in Bengaluru, was discovered in June 2019 after payments for its dream return programs, which were touted as conforming to Islamic investment rules, were stopped. Simultaneously, founder Mansoor Khan disappeared overseas, leaving thousands of investors embarrassed. He was arrested a month later.
Although the properties of the people allegedly involved in the IMA Ponzi scheme have been seized, it will be some time before their auction is cleared. This means a wait of several months before investors can review their money.
“So far we have attached a property worth Rs 475 crore. It will take at least six months for the court to confirm the attachment and for us to auction and make the money. there to be a call too … I plan about 5-6 months, “Gupta said.
The agent also published a list of rules for filing claims.
“Depositors can file their claim using the Aadhaar card number or transaction details of a non-IMA bank account after transferring Re.1 to the claims settlement body’s account. No further documentation would be required. for people with active IMA accounts. Otherwise, documents with details of the plan they signed up for should be shared, rules set out, “said the rules listed by the claims authority.
If the amount claimed matches the IMA records, depositors also don’t need to give deposit receipts, the press release says sharing helpline details for a full list of rules.
