Srinagar:

Four terrorists were killed Monday during a meeting with security forces in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation this morning in the Pinjora region of South Kashmir after receiving information about the presence of terrorists there, a police official said.

He said the operation turned into a meeting after the terrorists opened fire on the personnel of a search group, which had carried out reprisals. In the exchange of gunfire, four terrorists were killed.

Police did not disclose the identity of the terrorists killed or their group membership as part of a new policy to prevent youth from joining terrorist ranks.

This is the second meeting in the Shopian area in the past 24 hours.

On Sunday, five Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists, including a self-proclaimed commander, were killed on Sunday in a shootout with security forces in the Reban district.
