Mumbai:
Former Maharashtra election commissioner and famous Marathi writer Neela Satyanarayana died on Thursday of Covid-19.
Ms. Satyanarayana was the first female commissioner of the Election Commission. She was tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago and was under treatment at Seven Hills Marol Hospital in Andheri (East), where she breathed her last.
Meanwhile, the governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, expressed condolences for the death of the former state election commissioner, saying that “we have lost a dedicated officer and a socially sensitive thinker”.
“Smt Neela Satyaranayana was an exceptional officer, a prolific writer, a courageous mother and a social thinker. She has fulfilled all roles in her career and life with absolute dedication, a positive attitude and a passion. In her demise, we have lost a devoted and socially responsible officer I think deep in the memory of the late Smt Satyanarayana and pray to God to give his family the strength to bear the great personal loss, “the Governor said in a statement.
