The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau recorded the arrest of VK Ebrahim Kunju, a minister of Kerala’s former ruling system, the United Democratic Front (UDF), led by Congress.
Mr. Kunju would be taken into custody after being released from a private hospital in Ernakulam district, state where he is being treated, officials, who arrived at his home Wednesday morning, told the agency. PTI press release.
The lawmaker is charged in a corruption case related to the construction of the Palarivattom Flyover in Ernakulam district, state.
The flyover is located at a busy intersection crucial for intra-urban travel in Ernakulam.
The current Democratic Left Front (LDF) government decommissioned the bridge and began dismantling it in September 2019 after cracks were reported in the structure – three years after its inauguration in 2016. The bridge is under reconstruction based on expert recommendations.
Although the flyover was inaugurated under the existing LDF government, the majority of it was built during the former UDF government when Oommen Chandy was the chief minister.
