Srinagar:
Security forces are paying close attention to Pakistani efforts to drop weapons and drugs into Jammu and Kashmir along the border and will respond appropriately to these attempts, Police Director General Dilbag Singh said Thursday.
The DGP, speaking to reporters after laying a wreath for a CRPF officer, was responding to a question about the use of drones across the border to send weapons to terrorists operating in Jammu-et -Cashmere.
“This is the last evil act that is happening along the border. Previously it was happening on the border with Punjab. We will respond to it as well. So far we have tracked many shipments of weapons and narcotics by drones and stopped everything … those involved in these modules. This is another perverse conception (of Pakistan) and we are paying attention to it, “Singh said.
He said the tunnels and hideouts built by terrorists were of concern as they posed a threat to civilians in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The tunnels are mostly old, but now the intelligence network is strong and we are destroying these hiding places whether in the forests or in built-up areas,” he added.
The DGP said that while there had been two terrorist attacks in the past 24 hours, security forces had carried out successful operations during the same period. “Although we have had these two incidents in the last 24 hours, you should understand that we had a successful operation this morning in Tral in which a terrorist was neutralized. Just a few days ago, many successful operations have been carried out “. he said.
Mr Singh said that in the current scenario where Pakistan and its agencies “sponsor terrorism in the state and promote terrorism by all means”, the security grid’s effort is to see that any effort to this genre is foiled.
“We have succeeded and we will succeed. Anyone who is involved in terrorism will be brought to justice,” he added.
Deputy Deputy Inspector N C Badoley was killed in a terrorist attack in Budgam district on Thursday. CRPF AP Maheshwari Director General led security forces to pay tribute to the deceased officer.
Mr. Maheshwari said such incidents would not deter the force. “We are in total synergy with the J&K police and we will continue our mission of neutralizing the terrorists operating in the region. This does not discourage us and strengthens our resolve. I assure you that we will soon eliminate the terrorist elements operating in this area, ”he said.
