New Delhi:
A meeting of the “plenary commission” – the chief electoral commissioner and two electoral commissioners – was held in Nirvachan Sadan on Monday for the first time in almost three months.
The polling station had held virtual meetings while the Chief Election Commissioner, Sunil Arora, who was visiting the United States on holiday in the first half of March, was trapped there due to the coronavirus-induced lockout.
Arora returned to India recently and underwent mandatory quarantine before joining office on Monday.
A key decision made at one of these virtual meetings was to allow the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections to pave the way for the appointment of Uddhav Thackeray to the state legislature within six months of becoming minister chief.
The surveys have been postponed due to the coronavirus epidemic.
Other senior polling station officials attended the Monday meeting, a spokesperson said, sharing photos on Twitter.
