Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap arrives at Versova police station to be questioned in a rape case.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who arrived at Versova police station earlier this morning after being summoned on Wednesday, is being questioned in a rape case filed last week. The producer-director called the rape allegations “unfounded” and said he intended to take legal action in the case.
His lawyer Priyanka Khimani also arrived at the police station.
The summons was issued after the actor met Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari with MP Rajya Sabha and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale seeking the arrest of Mr Kashyap.
She questioned the “delay” in the arrest of Anurag Kashyap and said she would resort to a hunger strike if no action was taken.
As she spoke to the media with Minister Athawale on Monday, the actor said she faced a threat to her life and demanded Y-plus security. Mr Athawale, who backed the actor’s demand for Mr Kashyap’s arrest and safety cover, said his RPI (A) party would protect her.
The actor had recently accused Mr. Kashyap of having imposed himself on her in 2013. According to the actor, he had named three other actors as being “at hand”. In response, she claimed to have told Mr. Kashyap: “You gave Richa Chadha, Mahie Gill, Huma Qureshi a chance … they are such nominal girls. Usually the directors don’t give them a chance but you did a great job. But I’m not mentally prepared for it yet (sic). “
While Richa Chadha sent the actor legal advice, Huma Qureshi responded with a note in which she wrote that the comments angered her and that to her knowledge, Anurag Kashyap never misbehaved. with her or with anyone else.
Mr Kashyap argued that the allegations against him were “attempts to silence him”, and simply undermine the seriousness of the #MeToo movement that hit the film industry last year.
The critically acclaimed filmmaker has received backing from various Bollywoods, including ex-wives Kalki Koechlin and Aarti Bajaj who both championed him.
