Filmmaker Aditya Chopra recorded his statement today as part of the inquest into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput last month.
Mr. Chopra’s statement was recorded by the Bandra police at the Versova police station. The director-producer stayed at the police station for more than four hours, police said.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his apartment in Mumbai on June 14. The 34-year-old actor died by suicide, police said.
Police are investigating allegations that professional rivalry, in addition to clinical depression, led to suicide.
Statements from more than 34 people, including family, friends, co-stars and relatives, were taken during investigations ordered by the Maharashtra government into the shock death of the actor. Police in Mumbai on Friday recorded the statement by the actor’s psychiatrist, Dr. Kersi Chavda, to inquire about the actor’s medical history, recent mental condition before his death and changes in medication regimen. Besides Dr Chavda, the statements of three other doctors were also recorded by the Bandra police.
Actor Rhea Chakraborty – a close friend of Sushant Singh Rajput – Thursday asked Interior Minister Amit Shah to order the CBI to investigate the matter. Tagging Mr. Shah in an Instagram post, Rhea Chakraborty said she “only wanted to understand what made him take the plunge.”
Maharashtra’s interior minister Anil Deshmukh, however, has ruled out the possibility of his government considering requesting an investigation by the CBI into the matter. “There was no need to bring the case to the CBI. Our police officers are capable and conducting the investigation in the right way. We are also examining the angle of commercial rivalry,” said Deshmukh.
Sushant Singh Rajput debuted in the 2013 film “Kai Po Che“and went on to make several films, including”PK“,”Kedarnath“,”Sonchiriya“and”Chhichhore“- one of his last films widely appreciated.
His death led to a deluge of tributes and complaints on social networks involving the Hindi film industry, which fought against allegations of patronage and cliques.
