Bollywood producer Anil Suri, who had supported films like Raaj Kumar-Rekha starrer Karmayogi and Raaj Tilak, died Thursday of a coronavirus. He was 77 years old.
Anil Suri’s brother, film producer Rajiv Suri, said he had a fever on June 2, but his condition worsened the next day with shortness of breath.
“He was rushed to the best hospitals, Lilavati and Hinduja, but both refused him a bed,” said Rajiv.
“He was then taken to the Advanced Multi-Specialty Hospital on Wednesday evening. He had COVID-19. On Thursday evening, they said something was wrong and he was put on a ventilator. He died at around 7:00 p.m.” Rajiv told PTI.
The last rites of Anil Suri took place on Friday morning at the Oshiwara cremation site with four close family members who wore personal protective equipment (PPE) there.
Besides Rajiv, Anil Suri is survived by two children and his wife.
Rajiv, who produced Basu Chatterjee’s film in 1979 Manzil, with Amitabh Bachchan and Moushumi Chatterjee, said it was heartbreaking to lose one of his favorite directors and brother the same day.
Basu Chatterjee died in Mumbai Thursday morning.
