Bengaluru:
An ambulance driver was beaten by family members of a 75-year-old COVID-19 patient who died on Thursday on his way to Bengaluru hospital.
The incident occurred after the patient died in the ambulance while waiting outside MS Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru.
The driver was dragged out of the ambulance and chased by a relative.
His clothes were ripped off and the family blamed the driver for the patient’s death.
Speaking to the ANI, the driver said he was unable to explain the sequence of protocol to be followed in getting the patient to the treatment department.
Karnataka is one of the states most affected by the coronavirus pandemic. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family, the state had 67,456 active cases on Friday.
The state government has struggled to contain the spread of the disease by imposing and intermittently relaxing lockdown measures, especially in the capital Bengaluru. (ANI)
