New Delhi:
Facebook leader Ankhi Das, whose name has been raised in a controversy over the social media giant’s alleged bias in dealing with hate speech, was questioned for two hours by a parliamentary panel today.
Sources say Ankhi Das and Facebook business leader Ajit Mohan appeared before the panel and both believed in data protection.
They were firmly told that they could not use citizens’ personal data for “inferential” purposes in advertising, business or elections.
MEPs asked them a specific question about the percentage of their income they spend on backups for data protection.
Sources said Facebook was asked how much revenue it generates and how much tax it pays.
Facebook’s policy chief Ankhi Das recently came under fire after a US report alleged that she opposed the application of hate speech rules to a ruling BJP politician.
