The editorial also said several secular opposition parties were unwilling to take a firm stand

New Delhi:

The CPI (M) said on Thursday that the government had “deliberately” chosen August 5 as the date of the bhoomi pujan ceremony for the Ram temple in Ayodhya as the “demolition” of Jammu and Kashmir and the rebuilding of the temple are the two “basic agendas of the Hindutva forces”.

Last year, on August 5, the repeal of Article 370 of the Constitution was announced. This provision gave special status to the former state of Jammu and Kashmir, which was transformed into Union territory.

“The Prime Minister will lay the first brick of the founding ceremony of a place of religious worship, thus violating the secular principle of the State. Thanks to the Supreme Court ruling based on questionable grounds, the construction of the temple in Ayodhya has been legitimized, ”the CPI (M) spokesperson on popular democracy said in his latest editorial.

“August 5 was chosen as the date for ‘bhoomi pujanRam temple ceremony in Ayodhya. This date has been deliberately chosen – the demolition of J&K and the construction of the temple at the Babri Masjid site – are both on the central agenda of the Hindutva forces, ”he said.

The editorial said the court, which considered the demolition of the mosque “a serious violation of the law”, sanctioned the construction of the temple and thus gave primacy to the faith of the majority.

“The same Supreme Court did not find time to rule on the constitutional amendment and legislation that unlawfully falsified Article 370 and dismantled a state. This is another case of judicial evasion.” , did he declare.

The editorial also said that several secular opposition parties were unwilling to take a firm stand in favor of restoring the special status and statehood of Jammu and Kashmir.

“They seek to reduce the issue to the sole release of political prisoners and the restoration of democratic rights. This is a compromising position. The struggle for democracy, secularism and federalism requires a clear position – a state and a special status for JK must be. Failure to do so would further weaken India as a secular democracy, ”he said.
