A notorious criminal and sniper, who was involved in the attack on Bollywood director Rakesh Roshan in 2000, was arrested in Thane, Maharashtra, nearly three months after his release on parole, said today a senior official.

The accused, Sunil V Gaikwad, 52, was arrested in the Parsik Circle area of ​​Kalwa on Friday around 9 p.m., he said.

“We had received information that Gaikwad was coming to the Parsik Circle area. As a result, we set a trap and caught him,” Central Crime Control Unit Senior Inspector Anil said. Honrao.

“The accused has 11 murder cases and seven attempted murder cases registered against him. One of them includes the attack on the life of Bollywood director Rakesh Roshan in 2000,” he said. .

Rakesh Roshan was shot dead outside his office in Santa Cruz in the western suburbs of Mumbai in January 2000. The attackers fired six shots, two of which hit Mr. Roshan, police said.

“Gaikwad had been sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case and was held in Nashik Central Prison. However, he was granted a 28-day parole on June 26 this year,” the official said.

“He was to return to prison after the end of his parole period. However, he did not do so. He was in hiding until his arrest last night,” Honrao added.

According to the official, the criminal was active in 1999 and 2000 and was involved in several crimes. He was associated with the notorious gangs of Ali Budesh and Subhash Singh Thakur.

During the same period, he was also implicated in a company in Nashik, where he opened fire on police officers, he said.

“Gaikwad would be handed over to the police in Pant Nagar, where an escape offense was recorded,” Honrao said.
