Bihar Assembly election: PM Modi campaigned in West Champaran district

New Delhi / Patna:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday attacked the opposition over the construction of a temple in Ayodhya in the UP, attacking “those who questioned the existence of Lord Ram”. Addressing a rally in western Champaran in Bihar on the last day of the campaign for the second phase, he said those people had “created obstacles in the way of building” the temple.

“With the cooperation of the people, a large Ram temple is being built in Ayodhya. We should not forget those who questioned the existence of Lord Ram and created obstacles in the way of building the temple,” said declared the Prime Minister.

“Those who are against the NDA have no proof or no logic,” the prime minister added.

This is the second time in recent days that the prime minister has referred to Ram’s temple to describe his government’s work and the promises of the ruling coalition for Bihar.

“After centuries of penance, a great Ram temple is finally under construction in Ayodhya. The politicians who asked us for a tareekh (date), they are forced to applaud. This is the identity of the BJP, the NDA – what we say, we do, ”the prime minister said.

The BJP has frequently targeted Congress on the question of the questioning of Lord Ram’s existence.

In March last year, ahead of Lok Sabha’s polls, Union Minister Smriti Irani mocked Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s proposed visit to Ayodhya and called the party that who refused to believe in the existence of Lord Ram but had turned into a team of Ram followers for the votes.

The mockery referred to the government’s withdrawal from the Congress-led UPA in 2007 of an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court by the Archaeological Society of India (ASI) claiming that there was no historical evidence or scientist to establish the existence of Lord Ram.

In December, after the Supreme Court’s verdict, Ms Irani struck again, saying: “Voters should demand an explanation from Congress why it questioned Lord Ram’s existence.”

Meanwhile, in his West Champaran speech today, the Prime Minister also, once again, raised his government’s Section 370 decision and, once again, appeared to target Congress .

“When we repealed section 370, they said there would be a bloodbath … Today J&K and Ladakh are on the path to development …” he said. , referring to Congress’ criticism of the Section 370 decision.

However, as with the commentary on the Temple of Ram, many saw its references to Section 370 as a veiled dig at Nitish Kumar, who opposed the ruling but came after it became law.

The second phase of the polls in Bihar is scheduled for November 3, the third and final phase four days later. Results will be reported on November 10.
