Security forces have killed eight terrorists in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir in the past 24 hours. In one of the operations – in Pampore – the security forces eliminated the terrorists trapped in a mosque without damaging the structure. No shots and IEDs were used during the meeting to avoid damaging the mosque, officials said.

Security forces launched an anti-terrorist operation yesterday in the Shopian and Pampore areas after receiving specific information about the presence of terrorists. While five terrorists were killed in Shopian, three were killed in Pampore.

Security forces used smoke shells to force the detained militants out of the mosque on Friday morning, officials said, adding that the two were then killed by the military while preserving the sanctity of the religious site .

Kashmiri Police Inspector General Vijay Kumar said no fire or IED had been used to expel militants from the mosque.

“Patience and professionalism worked. No use of fire and booby-traps. Only used tear gas shells. Maintaining the sanctity of the mosque. The two terrorists hiding inside the mosque were neutralized” said the IGP.

“While carrying out the operation in Meez Pampore, the sanctity of the mosque was maintained. The local population and the Masjid committee expressed their happiness and thanked the district police chief, Mr. Tahir, for his patience and his good supervision. They also congratulated the army and the Crpf involved in the detention operation, “said the police. .
