New Delhi:
During US President Donald Trump’s astonishing “victory” speech at 2:30 am, his family joined him at the White House. Calling the election a “fraud on the American people” by his Democratic rivals, President Trump said he would go to the Supreme Court to challenge the vote count.
As the 74-year-old falsely declared the victory even though millions of votes remained countless, his family cheered him on.
Donald Trump’s wife Melania Trump, sons Eric and Donald Jr, daughters Ivanka and Tiffany were all smiles when the President made the stunning announcement.
The President’s children had come with their partners after an evening of watching the elections.
Donald Trump also thanked his wife, family and Vice President Mike Pence and his wife for their support amid loud cheers from an upbeat crowd at the White House East Room ceremony.
“We won this election,” Mr. Trump told his enthusiastic supporters, saying Republicans won in states they didn’t expect to win.
The businessman also said he would go to the Supreme Court because “we want all votes to stop.”
The campaign of his opponent Joe Biden quickly fought back, calling the president’s attempt to stop counting votes “scandalous” and “unprecedented”, and saying his legal teams were ready to fight him in court if necessary.
“The tally will not stop. It will continue until every duly cast vote is counted,” the Biden campaign said.
The race for the White House is close as Joe Biden leads 220-213 over Donald Trump in the fight for 270 Electoral College votes.
