NEW YORK:
A new book on Donald Trump written by his niece sold nearly a million copies on the first day of its sale in the United States, announced its publisher on Thursday.
“Too much and never enough: How my family created the most dangerous man in the world” by Mary Trump is presented as the first unflattering representation of the President by an insider of the family.
Mary, a psychologist whose father was Trump’s older brother, Fred, accuses the president of pride and ignorance, and says he meets the clinical criteria to be narcissistic.
The 950,000 copies sold Tuesday, including pre-orders as well as audio and digital versions, “is a business record” for the publishing house Simon & Schuster, he said in a statement.
The White House has dismissed memories as a “book of lies”.
The president’s younger brother, Robert Trump, went to court to try to block the publication, arguing that Mary was violating a non-disclosure agreement signed in 2001 after settling her grandfather’s estate, but to no avail.
Simon & Schuster has ordered more print copies, bringing the number to 1.15 million for the US market alone. The book also tops Amazon’s sales in Canada and Australia.
