The clip shared in Trump’s tweet shows a part where toddlers are seen ahead of the other.

Rome, Italy:

Twitter Inc added a “manipulated media” tag to a video posted on US President Donald Trump’s Twitter feed on Thursday that showed a news clip tampered with a misspelled banner flashing “Terrified toddler escapes baby racist”.

The original video, which went viral on social media in 2019, showed a black toddler and a white toddler running towards each other and hugging. It was published with the title “These Two Toddlers Show Us What Real Life Besties Look Like” on the CNN website last year.

The clip shared in Trump’s tweet first shows the part where one of these toddlers is seen in front of the other. At one point, the banner reads: “Racist baby, possibly a Trump voter.”

The tweeted video, with over 7.7 million views and 125,000 retweets, then shows the original video and concludes, “America is not the problem. False news is.”

“We can tag Tweets containing synthetic and manipulated media to help people understand their authenticity and to provide additional context,” said Twitter in an explanation of its policies posted on its website.

Twitter has been under close scrutiny by the Trump administration since it verified Trump’s tweets on unsubstantiated allegations of postal vote fraud. He also called a Trump tweet on the protests in Minneapolis “glorifying violence.”

The president, who fought Twitter and other tech companies for allegedly censoring conservative voices on social media platforms, said in late May that he would introduce legislation to remove or weaken the law protecting corporations Internet, in an extraordinary attempt to regulate the points of sale where it was criticized.
