President Donald Trump said on Friday that he was severing U.S. ties to the World Health Organization, which he said was not enough to fight the initial spread of the new coronavirus.
Trump had already suspended funding for the United Nations agency, accusing it of being a “puppet” of China as the global health crisis erupted.
“Because they have not made the requested and necessary reforms, we will end our relations with the World Health Organization today,” Trump told reporters.
The Republican leader said that the United States “would redirect these funds to other countries in the world and deserve urgent global public health needs”.
