Washington:
With Donald Trump in hospital, his campaign launched “Operation MAGA,” which she describes as “a full rally of high-level surrogates, campaign coalitions and Trump supporters” to rally behind the president until he can get back on the track.
“Operation MAGA,” which stands for “Make America Great Again,” will see Vice President Mike Pence and members of the First Family make in-person appearances in major battlefield states.
President Trump is currently undergoing treatment for the coronavirus at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda. Trump, 74, and First Lady Melania Trump, 50, tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, a development that rocked the Republican leader’s election campaign just weeks before the November 3 presidential election.
“Vice President Mike Pence, the First Family, our coalitions and our grassroots supporters will be in force to show the real enthusiasm behind the President’s re-election and to show that we are working as hard as he always does,” Trump 2020 Campaign manager Bill Stepien, who also tested positive for the virus on Friday, said in the press release on Saturday.
“Operation MAGA is a comprehensive gathering of high-level surrogates, campaign coalitions and Trump supporters to rally behind the president and move the campaign forward until he gets back on track,” a- he said, announcing the launch of the initiative.
Trump’s election rallies in recent weeks had drawn thousands of his supporters to listen, ignoring warnings from medical professionals like wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.
“Operation MAGA will trigger the entire MAGA universe to keep President Trump’s campaign at full speed until our Commander-in-Chief gets back on the election track,” Stepien said.
Pence will be making in-person campaign appearances in key states, as will First Family members Donald J Trump Jr., Eric Trump and his wife Lara. The campaign will host virtual events until the Vice Presidential Debate on October 7, when in-person events begin, the Trump campaign said.
Pence will begin a turn through key states following Wednesday’s vice presidential debate in Salt Lake City, Utah. He will travel to Arizona, before voting early in Indiana and heading to other events.
Members of the First Family will also be hosting live events in Battlefield States starting Wednesday. The campaign will also deploy its coalitions, including Women for Trump, Black Voices for Trump, Latinos for Trump and others for events in key states.
All previously announced campaign events involving Trump’s involvement have either been moved to virtual formats or are being temporarily postponed.
