Resident doctors at Hindu Rao Municipal Hospital protested over non-payment on Wednesday

New Delhi:

Resident doctors at Hindu Rao Municipal Hospital on Wednesday protested the non-payment of their salaries owed for the past three months and began an “indefinite symbolic strike,” officials said.

A group of medics, who were joined by nurses from the hospital, held placards and raised slogans demanding their wages owed, at the main entrance to the facility.

Hindu Rao Hospital is Delhi’s largest municipal hospital with 900 beds and is currently a dedicated COVID-19 facility. Many of his healthcare workers had contracted the infection earlier.

Since this is a dedicated coronavirus facility, “services will not be primarily affected”.

“We are leading an indefinite symbolic strike to make our voice heard by the authorities, who have so far failed to respond to our call. We have done the symbolic pen from 9 am to 12 pm in recent days, as well as protests online, but no one has listened to us, ”said Abhimanyu Sardana, president of the Association of Resident Doctors of the establishment.

So the protest took place and medics who are not on the COVID-19 rotation duty joined in, he said.

“We are also humans and have a family to lead. We are risking our lives for humanity in this pandemic. Is it too much to ask for our wages owed,” Sardana said.

The mayor of North Delhi, Jai Prakash, recently said: “We are doing all we can to solve the problem”.
