The Union Department of Health has asked all states and territories of the Union (UT) to return the bodies of COVID-19 suspected patients to their loved ones without waiting for laboratory reports confirming the infection. However, the final rites should be performed according to government directives, the ministry said.
A letter about this was sent to all states and TU on Wednesday after questions were raised about the deaths of COVID-19 suspects and the bodies not returned to relatives pending confirmation of the test report by hospitals .
“I want to make it clear that the bodies of these suspected COVID cases should be immediately released to their loved ones and that laboratory confirmation of COVID-19 should not be expected,” wrote the letter from the Director General of Health Services (DGHS. ) from the Ministry of Health. , Said Dr. Rajiv Garg.
These bodies can, as a precaution, be eliminated in accordance with the “Guidelines on the management of corpses” available on the website of the Union Health Ministry which orders that PPE handlers accompany the body for the final rites, the letter said.
“If these death cases ultimately prove positive, then the action required for the contact list, follow-up, etc. should be taken later. Other necessary measures may be taken in accordance with the clarifications given above”, indicates the letter.
