Naveen Patnaik said Odisha will write a new strategy to deal with the coronavirus pandemic

Bhubaneswar:

Odisha will develop a new strategy to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, as the days ahead will become more difficult with the restoration of train and flight services, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said today.

Patnaik, at a COVID-19 review meeting, said the administration will learn from its experience since March to define the new strategy.

To date, 1,517 cases of coronavirus have been reported in Odisha. Seven people died from the disease.

“The flight and train services have been restored, the next 15 to 30 days will be difficult, but I am sure that we can manage all of this in a professional manner”,
Said Mr. Patnaik.

In the past two months, the state has learned a lesson or two about the nature of the deadly virus and how it might be contained, he noted.

People with pre-existing illness and the elderly need additional care, said Patnaik.

“We need to rethink our response on the basis of these lessons to be able to overcome the threat and restore normalcy. I suggest that a campaign be run during the fortnight to raise awareness.”

“With repeated hand washing and strict adherence to standards of social distancing, we should be able to contain the spread of COVID-19. It should also be remembered that social distancing is not a social boycott. associated with strict action is necessary. That will be the target of the week, “said the Prime Minister.

Stressing that COVID-19 tests must be done “intelligently” to avoid contamination, he said that Odisha is “one of the leading states for timely examination of samples”, and that its government had the means to set up decentralized facilities in its every corner.

“The state, while following the ICMR’s recommendations to isolate people, has also authorized district collectors to extend institutional quarantine as needed,” said Patnaik.

Noting that temporary medical centers in villages are doing an excellent job of containing the spread of the virus, Patnaik said that 95% of Odisha’s positive cases have been reported by quarantine centers.

“This shows the robustness of our system and the efforts made by the sarpanches (village chiefs), the representatives of the people and the whole of the government apparatus, covering all the departments. I appreciate each of you for working day and night to fight COVIDs, “he said. .

Patnaik also appreciated the “human work” done by the police to ensure “zero marches inside Odisha” by migrant workers who arrived in or crossed the state.

“Good job done,” he said.

More than three lakh people returned to the state on special Shramik trains and buses in just 24 days, said Patnaik.

Speaking of the damage caused by Cyclone “Amphan”, which overtook Odisha on May 20, he said the state had taken proactive steps to restore power and restore road connectivity in two days.

“The people of Odisha have sacrificed so much over all these months and have fully cooperated with the government. Their sacrifice inspires us to go further in the accomplishment of our tasks,” said Mr. Patnaik.
