Panna:
A 10.69-carat diamond, valued at Rs 50 lakh, was unearthed in a mine in Panna district, Madhya Pradesh, an official said on Tuesday.
Anandilal Kushwaha (35), who leased a mine in the Ranipur area, deposited a 10.69-carat diamond with the local diamond office (Hira Karyalaya), Panna diamond manager R K Pandey said.
Mr Kushwaha had also recently deposited a 70-cent diamond, he said, adding that it was the first major discovery after the coronavirus-induced lockdown was eased in the district.
The gemstone will be auctioned off and the proceeds will be returned to the depositor after deducting royalties and government taxes, the official said.
Although the diamond has not yet been assessed, local experts have claimed it can reach up to Rs 50 lakh depending on its quality.
Mr Kushwaha told reporters that he and his partners had worked hard for the past six months in the mine and were delighted with the discovery.
