Bombay:

Actors Dia Mirza and Sonu Sood have been roped to co-host the documentary series Bharat Ke Mahaveer to celebrate the selfless heroes of the country of the COVID-19 pandemic. The series is a joint initiative of the United Nations in India and NITI Aayog, in partnership with Discovery Channel. The three-part show will feature 12 stories of unsung heroes who have shown “strength and solidarity” in the midst of the pandemic. Dia Mirza, who is the United Nations Secretary-General’s lawyer for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), said India has shown the world how the united power of the people can overcome “all adversity”. “Instead of self-interest, we have seen a wave of solidarity during the pandemic. People come together to spread love, compassion and positivity through their actions, ensuring that the most vulnerable are not left behind. I am proud to call myself. an Indian and proud to be part of this excellent initiative, ”she said in a statement.

Sonu Sood, who has been at the forefront of COVID-related relief activities, said the pandemic has been “painful” but has not deterred individuals from showing extraordinary sense of ’empathy. “The Almighty has been kind to me and empowered me to help others, and I’ve tried in my little way, but some of the stories I’ve read are about people with limited means but who , with their strong will, moved mountains. The world will know more about these heroes thanks to Bharat Ke Mahaveer, ”added the actor, who is also the face of the campaign with Dia Mirza.

Bharat Ke Mahaveer celebrates stories of solidarity, where, whether through the distribution of food, the provision of medical care, the donation of their savings or the feeding of a stray animal, citizens have shown a strong sense of solidarity in times of crisis. Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog, said the series’ goal is to shine a light on those who, despite enormous challenges, have stepped up to help others. “Throughout this global crisis, we have seen countless stories of individuals across the country who have gone above and beyond their duty. Even in the budding districts, despite greater development challenges, people have come forward in a tremendous display of humanity, ”Mr. Kant told me.

Bharat Ke Mahaveer will air on Discovery Channel and also air on Discovery Plus in November.
