Devendra Fadnavis and other BJP leaders met with Amit Shah in Delhi on Friday

New Delhi:

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday that no “Operation Lotus” was taking place in Maharashtra, with the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government collapsing due to its “internal contradictions”.

Fadnavis made the statement during an interview with journalists in New Delhi after a meeting with the Minister of the Interior, Amit Shah.

The former chief minister of Maharashtra said his meeting with Amit Shah was “apolitical” because it aimed to seek financial aid for the state sugar industry.

He said he also informed Mr. Shah about the coronavirus scenario in the state and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for time to brief him on the situation.

Speaking of the meeting, Mr. Fadnavis said: “There has been no political discussion. We are not interested in destabilizing the state government … Now is the time to fight the coronaviruses.”

“There is no” Operation Lotus “in Maharashtra … We have already said that the government is full of internal contradictions and when it falls because of this, we will see,” he said. .

“Operation Lotus” refers to the BJP’s alleged attempts to create defections from other parties.

Fadnavis also rejected speculation that he was called upon to play a role in national politics.

Asked about the leaders of western Maharashtra who accompanied him to Delhi, he replied that they were associated with the sugar industry.

BJP leaders Harshvardhan Patil, Dhananjay Mahadik, Ranjit Sinh Mohite, MP Jaykumar Gore, MP Ranjit Nimbalkar and Vinay Kore of the Jansurajya Shakti Party, an ally of the BJP, accompanied Mr. Fadnavis during the meeting with Amit Shah.
