New Delhi:
Prior to Guru Nanak Jayanti, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday that the decision to reopen the Kartarpur corridor would be made in accordance with the coronavirus protocol.
Speaking at the weekly virtual briefing, MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said the Kartarpur corridor was closed due to the COVID-19 protocol and that it will be reopened after consultation with all relevant authorities.
“The decision to reopen the Kartarpur corridor will comply with the COVID19 protocol. We are in contact with all the authorities concerned, ”said Mr Srivastava.
On October 2, the Pakistani government announced the reopening of the 4.7 kilometers long passage that connects Dera Baba Nanak Sahib to Gurdaspur in India and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib to Kartarpur in Pakistan. It was inaugurated last year.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kartarpur Corridor was closed by the Indian government in March.
The Pakistani government had also banned Pakistani nationals from traveling through the Kartarpur corridor.
It was reopened briefly in June to commemorate the anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s death, with India rejecting Pakistan’s offer and refusing to open the corridor on its side.
