Patna:
Bihar’s Nitish Kumar government – battling claims of indifference in the case over the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput – has decided to support the bereaved family in court. The state government has said it will file a warning in the Supreme Court blocking efforts by actor friend Rhea Chakraborty to transfer the case against her to Mumbai.
Mr Chakraborty faced allegations of cheating and encouragement and a complaint was filed against her in Patna after complaints from the family. Sushant Singh Rajput’s father has already filed a warning in the superior court. The government of Bihar will be represented by Senior Counsel Mukul Rohatgi, who was the central government principal lawyer.
The Bihar government’s move came after opposition leaders like Tejashwi Yadav of Rashtriya Janata Dal and allies like Chirag Paswan of the Lok Janashakti party accused him of not helping Sushant Singh Rajput’s family.
The issue also resonated with young people, especially those from the Rajput caste.
The 34-year-old, considered to be one of Bollywood’s promising actors, was found dead in his Mumbai home on June 14. Police said it was a suicide case. The case is under investigation by both Maharashtra and Bihar police, although Maharashtra authorities have rejected appeals for its surrender to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
This opinion was supported by the Supreme Court today, which, in response to a petition, said: “Let the police do their job”.
The 40-day-old affair caused political turmoil as Bihar leaders did not welcome Maharashtra’s rejection. The RJD is an ally of Congress, which is part of the ruling alliance in Maharashtra.
The RJD has made it clear that it wants a CBI investigation into the death.
“We respect the decision of the bereaved family to house an FIR in Patna. But we have no confidence in the Bihar police, who are known for their ineptitude, and struggle to resolve the simplest cases,” said said Tejashwi Yadav, quoted by the news agency. Press Trust of India.
“The chief minister of Bihar would do better to speak to his counterpart in Maharashtra and pressure him for a CBI investigation,” he added.
Chirag Paswan even called Maharashtra’s chief minister Udhav Thackrey to ask him to turn the file over to CBI.
In a cautious statement, JD (U) spokesman Rajiv Ranjan Prasad said it was the prerogative of the Maharashtra government whether or not to hand the matter over to the CBI. But the fact remains that 40 days of investigation by Mumbai police had led nowhere, one reason the bereaved family filed an FIR in Patna, PTI said.
