Bats linked to the raging coronavirus pandemic have raised fear among villagers (Performance)

Gorakhpur:

A large number of bats were found dead in the Belghat area of Gorakhpur on Tuesday morning, causing panic among residents.

Villagers were concerned that the bats were linked to the raging coronavirus pandemic, but forest officials said that, at first, the bats died from excessive heat.

The carcasses of bats have been sent to the Indian Institute of Veterinary Research (IVRI) in Bareilly for examination to find out the exact reason for their death, they said.

“I noticed many bats lying dead near a mango tree in my orchard this morning. Next to my garden, there is an orchard of Dhruv Narayan Shahi. We noticed that a large number of bats mice lay lifeless and many others died, “said Pankaj Shahi of Dit Belghat.

“We informed the forest department and they took the dead bats and asked us to keep them water because they could have died due to the extremely hot weather,” he said.

After obtaining information, the forest ranger from Khajni Devendra Kumar reached the place.

“The bat carcasses are being sent for examination. At first glance, the bats appear to have died due to the excessive heat and lack of water, as the ponds and lakes in the area also dried up, “he said.

An intense heat wave is sweeping across northern India, with mercury crossing 45 degrees Celsius in many regions.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Avinash Kumar said that the reason for the bats’ deaths can be clearly stated once they have received an IVRI report.
