Kamika Ekadashi Vrat

Lord Vishnu’s devotees wake up early and take a bath. They decorate an idol of Lord Vishnu with flowers and light incense sticks and diyas. A Katha or the prayer is read and fast is observed throughout the day. Many are known to fast for two days also during Kamika Ekadashi.

Meaning of Kamika Ekadashi:

According to the Scriptures, Lord Brahma first related the importance of Kamika Ekadashi to Devrishi Narad Muni and explained the importance of praying to Lord Vishnu. Anyone who watches Kamika Ekadashi and offers a tulsi leaf to the god will reach moksha, he said. It is said that in the Mahabharata, there is also mention of the auspicious Kamika Ekadashi and Yudhishthir had also asked Lord Krishna about the meaning of Kamika Ekadashi.

Mythology says that on that day, Lord Vishnu went to yoga sleep in Ksheersagar and woke up on Prabodhini Ekadashi, four months later. The four auspicious months are known as Chaturmas in the Hindu calendar. The Chaturmas begin with the Devshayani Ekadashi in Ashadh. The most important festivals and the vrats are observed by Hindus and especially during Chaturrmas.
