New Delhi:
On behalf of Bollywood power brokers, social media urged those in the film fraternity who criticized their colleagues after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In a remarkable article on Facebook, director Abhinav Kashyap did just that. Mr. Kashyap directed Salman Khan in 2010 blockbuster Dabangg but he withdrew from the aftermath because, he writes, brothers Arbaaz and Sohail Khan of Salman “were trying to take control of (his) career by intimidating him”. The Khans retaliated by sabotaging his career, says Kashyap. They would have gone to great lengths to do so; “Salman Khan and his family sabotaged the release of the film,” says Abhinav Kashyap of his 2013 project. Besharam, the last film he made. In his post, he urges the government to conduct a detailed investigation into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.
“I know who my enemies are. Let it be known that they are Salim Khan, Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan,” writes Abhinav Kashyap, also claiming to have received threats by SMS that he attributes to the brothers. .
In his rather extraordinary post, Abhinav Kashyap also detailed the machinations of talent managers and production houses in Bollywood. “These people are not making a career. They are ruining your career and your life,” writes Kashyap, adding that he “suffered personally for a decade.”

Salman Khan’s name appeared more than once in angry messages that flooded social media after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Many celebrities, including Salman Khan, have paid tribute to the actor, provoking violent reactions and accusations of hypocrisy. Mr. Khan, one of the most powerful stars in the industry, has been accused in several tweets of destroying the career of actor Vivek Oberoi, with whom he has a controversial history.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai home on Sunday – he died by suicide, police said. Rajput is said to have been kicked out of the film industry despite his many successes, the latest being the 2019 film Chhichhore. Politician Sanjay Nirupam alleged actor lost seven films he signed after Chhichhore; director Shekhar Kapur spoke of “people who have given up (Sushant)”. Some other members of the film industry – actors Nikhil Dwivedi and Ranvir Shorey and director Abhinav Sinha – shared critical tweets on “hypocrisy”, “the Bollywood Privilege Club” and “the Guardians of Bollywood”. Apart from Abhinav Kashyap, none named a name, although he was invited to do so in the comments thread. “Don’t ask me to expand,” concluded Anubhav Sinha’s tweet.
The numerous articles referring to the alleged role of the film industry in Sushant Singh Rajput’s alienation and isolation seem to have been noted. Maharashtra’s interior minister Anil Deshmukh said the police’s investigation into the actor’s death would also probe reports that professional rivalry was a factor.
