Hyderabad:
Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Monday that Atmanirbhar Bharat’s prospects are so crucial for India that whether or not the country becomes a blue chip industrial power depends on what is decided now.
Speaking at the third edition of the Deccan Dialogue hosted by the Indian School of Business, Mr Jaishankar said on behalf of the opening, that India has allowed subsidized products and unfair production benefits to the foreigner to prevail and that this was justified by the mantra of an open and globalized economy.
“Without exaggeration, what we decide now will determine whether India becomes a first-rate industrial power or not … Atmanirbhar Bharat’s prospects are so crucial. This approach, instead of allowing others to decide of our future prospects, is an argument in favor of building strong national capacities and deep forces, ”he said.
According to him, the success of the country should not have been determined only by the rate of growth of the GDP because it should also have taken into account the sustainability of the processes engaged, their consequences on employment and the overall development of society.
“We have not only failed to develop the deep strengths that a large industrial economy like ours should have; we have in fact created a challenge for jobs by becoming too dependent on imports. And in doing so, we have neglected my main message today: adequate awareness of the world, ”he said.
Regarding the Covid-19 vaccine, the minister said the world is counting on India for an accessible and affordable cure.
