Doctors treating Soumitra Chatterjee are considering a tracheotomy on the veteran actor, in hopes the operation may improve his condition, a senior official said on Monday. Doctors are also considering performing plasmapheresis after consulting with nephrologists, he said.
“We might consider having a tracheostomy on Wednesday. It might improve her condition,” the official said. A team of experienced doctors from the state health department visited Soumitra Chatterjee at the private hospital and had in-depth discussions with the doctors treating him.
The actor no longer had a fever, due to which the doctors stopped the antibiotics. Soumitra Chatterjee, who debuted in Satyajit Ray’s masterpiece Apur Sansar, has been on treatment since the first week of October after testing positive for COVID-19.
He then tested negative for infection, but COVID-19 encephalopathy set in and various other complications.
