Washington:
The United States will consider joining the World Health Organization if it ends corruption and dependence on China, the White House said on Sunday.
President Donald Trump ended America’s relationship with the WHO on Friday and accused the global health agency of going hand in hand with China to share inaccurate information to the world on the coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 370,000 people worldwide.
“WHO must reform. What the president said, if the WHO reformed and ended corruption and ended dependence on China, the United States would seriously consider returning” , US national security adviser Robert O’Brien told ABC News.
The United States has said it will spend the money, more than $ 400 million, which it is donating to WHO, to other international public health organizations.
“In the meantime, we are going to take the $ 400 million that the United States is spending, versus the $ 40 million that the Chinese are spending on WHO. And we are going to make sure that they achieve front-line health” social workers, just like we do with PEPFAR in Africa, “said O’Brien.
“WHO does not save lives for the victims of AIDS and HIV in Africa. It is the United States and our generous taxpayers who save these lives in Africa. We do not do it through WHO. We do it as the United States of America, “he said.
“We will take that same money and make sure it gets to Doctors Without Borders and the Red Cross and hospitals around the world that need it and doesn’t go through a corrupt international organization controlled by the Chinese.” Communist Party. Sure, “said O’Brien.
Appearing on CNN in another Sunday talk show, O’Brien said the United States had a series of measures to deal with China and how it had stifled freedom in Hong Kong.
“The president made a very important announcement on this front on Friday and the American government is examining all of our relations with Hong Kong and China. So there will be an answer and it will be proportional, but it is not something that our adversaries will get away with it for free, “he added.
