New Delhi:

The government DISHA incubation fund, which will promote indigenous manufacturing of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), will be awarded less than Rs 500 crore due to the economic “recession” triggered by the coronavirus, the joint secretary said on Tuesday. from the Department of Aviation, Amber Dubey.

The DISHA fund will provide financial support to Indian startups and researchers for the manufacture of drones or drones for use in four sectors: infrastructure, security, health and agriculture.

“These are the four areas of the Big Bang that we are focusing on. We started with a big bang number of Rs 2000 crore (allocation), we brought it down to Rs 500 crore. This was all before March, so the number may drop further because the reality is in front of us. We are in the midst of the worst recession in 100 years, ”Dubey said during a webinar hosted by ideaForge, a drone maker.

Highlighting the economic downturn triggered by the coronavirus, he said it was a time when small and medium-sized businesses are struggling and migrants, the unemployed and the disadvantaged must be supported by the government.

“So who the hell is going to talk about drones and high tech and all that. Yes, we (Ministry of Civil Aviation) are in the queue. We are raising the issue with end user ministries (by the way) funds), “he said.

“Let’s be very frank and honest here. It won’t happen overnight. I’m a shameless guy, so I’ll keep trying. But the money may come a little later. It won’t happen tomorrow. or next month., “he added.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has initiated the process of registering non-compliant drones that were not registered with the aviation regulator DGCA and that did not obtain drone recognition numbers (DAN) from June 8.

The ministry said that a similar once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for voluntary disclosure of these drones was provided between Jan. 14 and Jan. 31. A total of 19,553 non-compliant drones were registered during this period, he said.

On June 5, the ministry released draft rules for the manufacture and use of drones in the country where it proposed that a licensed drone manufacturer or importer could only sell its devices to an individual or entity. approved by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

It will issue the final rules after deliberating on the comments received from all stakeholders on the draft rules.
