For the second day in a row, India reported more recoveries than new cases. According to data from the Ministry of Health this morning, 94,612 people have been cured in the past 24 hours. With that, more than 43 lakh Covid patients have recovered from the infection in the country, pushing the cure rate to almost 80%.
The country recorded 92,605 new coronavirus infections in 24 hours, which exceeded the 54 lakh mark. The number of cases in the country now stands at 54,00,619, of which 10,10,824 are active cases.
In the 24-hour period, India, which is the second worst-affected country after the United States, reported 1,133 virus-related deaths, bringing the total death toll to 86,752.
India has also doubled its tests over the past month to over 6.24 crore, with a record 12 lakh (12.06806) tests performed in the past 24 hours, the health ministry said.
India has reported more than 90,000 cases per day over the past week and added nearly 17 lakh cases in September alone. His positivity rate now stands at 10.58%, up sharply from 7.5% in mid-July.
About 21,150 of the total deaths, or about a quarter of all deaths so far, were reported in September. The death rate in India is 1.61%, according to data from the Ministry of Health on Saturday.
