Congress will hold internal talks on Wednesday on seat-sharing deals with like-minded parties for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
Sources said the party called its Bihar unit leader Madan Mohan Jha and Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Sadanand Singh on Wednesday in the nation’s capital.
The Congress is contesting the polls of the Bihar assembly within the framework of the “Mahagathbandhan” with the RJD, the left-wing parties and certain small state parties.
The three-phase assembly election in Bihar will begin on October 28 and end on November 7, with the results to be announced on November 10.
The sources said the seat-sharing deal is not in the works because the RJD, which is the alliance’s biggest partner, is not ready to offer more than 55 seats in Congress, who wants to compete for 75 seats out of a total. out of 243.
The Congressional selection committee for the Bihar polls will also meet soon to select the candidates for the next polls. Avinash Pande heads the state selection committee.
The sources said Congress, as a national party, wants to compete for at least 70 seats and talks are underway with the RJD leadership.
Congress disputed the last assembly polls in 2015 in Bihar as part of the Mahagathbandhan with the RJD and JDU.
While Congress won 41 seats under the 2015 seat-sharing deal, the RJD and JDU fought over 101 seats each.
