Lucknow:

A day after the declaration of the results of the Uttar Pradesh assembly bypasses, in which Congress failed to win any of the seven seats, the party took comfort in its presence in two constituencies where it was found finalist.

Congress candidates Arti Bajpai in Bangarmau and Kripa Shankar in Ghatampur came second after BJP in bypolls.

“There may not be a tectonic shift towards the party in the assembly bypolls, but there is a gradual and visible shift among voters from state to Congress,” the spokesperson said. speech of UP Congress, Ashok Singh.

“We are number two by two places compared to BSP, which only finished number two at Bulandshahr,” he told PTI on Wednesday.

In the 2017 assembly elections, Congress was third in Ghatampur. In Bangarmau, he then extended his support to the SP, whose candidate had finished second.

The ruling BJP retained six of the seven seats, and the Samajwadi Party clung to the one it held before the by-pass on November 3 began.

The by-elections were held against the backdrop of a campaign led by the opposition – especially Congress – on the law and order situation in the state led by the Bharatiya Janata party.

AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has repeatedly attacked Yogi Adityanath’s government over the Hathras case in which a Dalit woman died after alleged gang rape.

Compared to 2017, the BJP’s share of the vote fell slightly in four of the six constituencies won.

But he still collected 36.73% of the votes polled in the seven constituencies, against a meager 7.53% in favor of Congress.
