New Delhi:
Congress on Thursday called on the BJP to convince its alliance partner JD (U) in Bihar to cancel the candidacy of Manju Verma, who was named in the infamous Muzaffarpur shelter home sex scandal, for future polls of state.
Head of the Women’s Wing of Congress, Sushmita Dev, said Manju Verma, after being named in the scandal, was removed from her post as Minister of Women and Child Development in the NDA government led by Nitish Kumar in Bihar and expelled from Janata Dal (United).
However, she was again lined up on the pitch by the JD (U), led by Nitish Kumar, in the upcoming state polls starting on October 28.
“The BJP-JD (U) should cancel Verma’s candidacy and I hope (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi, who constantly says ‘beti bachao, beti padhao’, will make the speech and make sure his candidacy is canceled , “Ms. Dev told reporters.
“If you’re serious about women’s safety, you should break this alliance with the JD (U), unless they remove Verma and withdraw her candidacy,” she said.
Ms Dev also said the prime minister should get serious about crimes against women.
