Avinash Pande said that Congress has an adequate mandate, the support of independents and other parties.

Jaipur:

Congress is “confident of winning” the two Rajya Sabha seats in Rajasthan, its leader Avinash Pande said on Saturday and said the BJP would face a decent defeat in “this blatant attempt to stifle democracy”.

Congress accused the BJP of trying to ride a horse before the June 19 elections and assembled its members of parliament and lawmakers supporting the party-led government in the state in a hotel.
The BJP, however, rejected this accusation.

“We are confident of winning seats in the Rajya Sabha elections in Rajasthan. We have an adequate mandate, the support of the independents and other parties. We have more than the number required for the majority. The BJP will face defeat appropriate in this blatant attempt to stifle democracy. “said Mr. Pande, party affairs official in Rajasthan.

The Congress presented K C Venugopal and Neeraj Dangi as candidates.

National Assembly figures suggest that Congress would win two seats in the June 19 Rajya Sabha and BJP elections.

But the BJP presented two candidates, triggering accusations that it counted on the horse trade.

While Congress was trying to keep its herd together, the deputy chief minister and head of the state party unit Sachin Pilot traveled to New Delhi on Saturday by road, party sources said.

Pilot attended a meeting at the hotel where party lawmakers are camping to define the party’s election strategy, they said. He is expected to return to Jaipur on Sunday, the sources said.
