San Francisco:
Coca-Cola, a major force in global advertising, announced Friday that it will suspend social media advertising for at least 30 days while the platforms face a problem of handling racist content.
“There is no room for racism in the world and there is no room for racism on social media,” said James Quincey, president and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company, in a short press release.
He said that social media companies – which other big brands have boycotted to force changes in the way they deal with hate content – must provide “greater accountability and transparency”.
Coca-Cola will use the break to “reassess our advertising policies to determine if revisions are necessary,” said Quincey.
