Washington:
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the recent clashes “initiated” by the Chinese military against India in eastern Ladakh are the latest examples of “unacceptable behavior” by the ruling Chinese Communist Party.
He also praised India’s decision to ban 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, which he said pose “security risks” to the Indian people.
“It is important that democracies like ours work together, especially as we see more clearly than ever the real scale of the challenge posed by the Chinese Communist Party. Our infrastructure projects, our supply chains, our Sovereignty and the health and safety of our people are all If we are wrong, ”Pompeo said in his virtual introductory speech at the“ India Ideas Summit ”of the US Business Council in India.
“The recent clashes started by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) are just the latest examples of the Chinese Communist Party’s unacceptable behavior. We were deeply saddened by the deaths of 20 Indian servicemen. I am convinced that with our efforts together, we can protect our interests, ”he said.
He said he was happy to announce that India is a “growing US defense and security partner, in the Indo-Pacific and globally,” he said.
Claiming that the United States has never been more supportive of India’s security, he said New Delhi is also an important partner and a key pillar in US President Donald Trump’s foreign policy.
“We are working very closely to ensure that the election to the World Intellectual Property Organization is won by someone who respects property rights. It sounds pretty basic.”
Mr Pompeo said the so-called quadruple compilation included that the United States, India, Japan and Australia were revived. “India is also part of a group of like-minded nations that I have regularly convened to promote common interests,” he said.
He also noted that the United States has also invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the upcoming G-7 summit, where the leaders will advance the web of economic prosperity.
Mr Pompeo said India has a chance to draw global supply chains away from China and reduce its dependence on Chinese companies in areas such as telecommunications, medical supplies and others. .
“India is in this position because it has won the trust of many nations around the world, including the United States,” he said.
“We also had to work with India to advance the Blue Network, an initiative to promote the development of transparent and high-quality infrastructure,” he said, adding that this effort is crucial to embrace because free markets are the best way to lift people out of poverty. .
India has seen this in its own recent past, he added.
The US Secretary of State said this was a particularly vital truth to remember today, as the private sector will be indispensable and will overcome the economic damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic that began in Wuhan, in China.
“But as I said last year to achieve these laudable goals, India will have to encourage an environment more open to increased trade and investment. I know it is possible because Indians and Americans share a spirit of hard work and entrepreneurship, and I have no doubts that our partnership is only getting stronger, ”Pompeo said.
The United States, he said, wants a new era of ambition in its relationship with India.
“We don’t just interact on a bilateral basis. We see each other for what we are great democracies, world powers and very good friends. India is one of the few trusted, like-minded countries that I regularly call on leaders for advice and collaboration on issues that span continents, ”said Pompeo.
