The Chinese envoy to Britain said on Wednesday that those who regard China as a hostile state were mistaken and warned EU states not to interfere in China’s internal affairs in Hong Kong .
“Those who see China as a systematic rival or as a potentially hostile state are mistaken – they have chosen the wrong target and they are going in the wrong direction,” said Ambassador Liu Xiaoming to the Center for European Reform.
“China has never interfered in the internal affairs of other countries and we firmly oppose any interference in the internal affairs of China of any country,” he said, adding that the security law had been “warmly welcomed by the residents of Hong Kong”.
He said that some European politicians had made “irresponsible” comments on the law.
“Stop meddling in Hong Kong business,” he said.
