Chennai:
The family of the Chennai woman who lodged a harassment complaint against Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) national president withdrew their complaint to the police, allegedly under pressure from the apartment complex association where they both live.
Dr Subbiah Shanmugam, who is also the head of the surgical oncology department at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, had been accused of harassing his 62-year-old neighbor after she asked him to pay to use her parking space in the apartment complex.
The woman’s family say Dr Shanmugam urinated at the woman’s door, threw away used masks and trash, in addition to harassing her on the phone and breaking a sign. His family had also presented CCTV evidence involving the government doctor.
“Yes, we withdrew the complaint although we wanted to proceed legally. My aunt wants peace. She has faced endemic problems from the apartment association. We stand by the CCTV evidence we provided. . It’s authentic, “said a family member of the woman. GalacticGaming. He also added: “The doctor is an oncologist. We don’t want this police action to affect his patients in this time of pandemic.
However, the inspector of the police station where the case was filed refused to have received a request to withdraw the complaint. “We have not received anything. We are investigating because the FIR has been filed. They should go to court if they want to withdraw,” he said.
Recounting the alleged sequence of events, the family member told GalacticGaming that the problems started at least four months ago when she asked Dr Shanmugam to pay to use her parking space at her apartment complex .
“He was calling her and harassing her, asking if he could send her chicken, knowing full well that she was a vegetarian,” the member said.
Although Chennai Police issued only a CSR receipt earlier, they filed the FIR after the controversy gained media attention. He was also charged with breaking quarantine rules and “causing harm”.
MK DMK Kanimozhi also intervened and called on Tamil Nadu’s chief minister, Edappadi Palaniswami, to ensure that the family’s allegations are investigated.
It has become routine for the police to turn a blind eye to complaints against members of the right. @CMOTamilNadu should intervene immediately and ensure that all are treated equally before the law.

The controversy has also gained attention on social media, with many raising the question of whether a government doctor can hold such positions in a politically affiliated organization.
Dr Subbiah did not respond to calls. However, an unsigned statement from the ABVP sent to the media read: “The misunderstandings between two families are now resolved and all issues between the two parties are now resolved. Parking issues but the political vultures indulged in slander and slander. the assassination of the character of Dr Subbiah Shanmugam “.
